![]() Bulgaria was traditionally known as the playground of the rich and famous Russians who would head for the resorts on the Black Sea. During the past decade Bulgaria has become one of the most visited destinations in Europe, attracting seven million visitors per year, and today it enjoys a very specific following. The Germans and the Scandinavians have long been enamoured with what is on offer particularly the luxury spa resorts which are often lower priced than similar resorts in Western Europe. The country's very diverse climate gives people the option to ski in the north and sun bathe on the beaches of the south. It doesn't just stop at beach or mountain, Bulgarians are keen to exploit their assets and all types of tourist activities are emerging such as "ethno-tourism" or "architectural-cultural". ![]() Foreign interest was heightened further by their inclusion to the European Union in 2007. Today it is estimated that as many as five thousand British and Irish are permanent residents in Bulgaria. Bulgaria offers quaint attractions and what feels like a nostalgic "step back" for Northern Europeans. Not only that, but they are lured by the sincere hospitality of the ![]() Bulgarian people and the very cheap cost of living compared with other expat relocation destinations. Although increasingly rising in popularity, it has not been exhausted by expats which can be unappealing for many people looking for a home abroad. New foods, unheard of customs and just the exoticism of Slavic culture is enchanting for tourists and buyers keen to sample a more unknown culture without having to travel too far.
