Conveniently located midway between Marbella and Fuengirola, Calahonda is the perfect base from which to enjoy the whole of the Costa del Sol. With its own exit on the A7 toll road it is an area which has developed over the past few years as more and more people discover its charms.
Predominantly foreign, residents of Calahonda are a curious mix of holidaymakers and full time residents which gives the area a relaxed feel where everyone always seems to have a smile and a friendly word. The area now boasts a charming pot pourri of bars, restaurants and shops ranging from the English butcher to the Indian restaurant, the Swedish bakery to the German bar. One of the focal points of the area is the beautiful sporting harbour at Cabopino – a perfect place to spend a lazy afternoon, watching the boats or enjoying a meal at one of the fabulous fish restaurants. Anyone with a love of watersports will fall instantly in love with the place. There are plenty of other sporting facilities in Calahonda, with tennis and golf being among the most popular. The sports clubs, of which there are a number, are great places to meet people and have become an important part of the social fabric of the area. The golf clubs, too, are friendly and have active social calendars. There are a number of golf courses in the area with more on the way. Of particular note are the 27 holes at La Cala and what is regarded by many to be the most beautiful course on the coast, Santana Golf.
Property in Calahonda is varied, Some has been designed with the holidaymaker in mind, some for year round living. But most of the developments in the area will have a good number of residents at any time making for a lively active community. Such is the importance of the foreign community in the area that some of the local Spanish state schools have more foreign pupils than Spanish, and one or two have taken advantage of recent changes in the education guidelines and now teach classes in both English and Spanish – a fabulous advantage to all the children! There is so much to do in Calahonda that there is really no need to stray any further afield, but both Marbella and Fuengirola are so close that all of their attractions are just a few minutes away. So whether you spend your time in your apartment in Calahonda and by the pool in your complex, or whether you spend your time skipping from the port to the restaurants, the bars to the golf club, Calahonda is a clear choice.
